Chromic Surgical Catgut Sutures

Chromic Surgical Catgut Sutures are a specialized type of absorbable suture made from purified connective tissue, primarily collagen, derived from the serosal layer of bovine intestines.

They are treated with chromic salt solutions to prolong their absorption within the body and to minimize tissue reaction. These sutures are known for their twisted multifilament structure that gives a monofilament appearance, ensuring smooth passage through tissue and reliable knot security.

Chromic Catgut Sutures are typically used in general closure, soft tissue approximation, and ligation in surgeries such as ophthalmic, gastrointestinal tract, and obstetrics/gynecology. They are preferred for their ability to join and regenerate tissues rapidly, which is crucial in surgical procedures. However, the rate of tensile strength loss and absorption can vary based on the suture type, the tissue site, and the presence of infection. It's important to note that while Chromic Catgut Sutures are absorbed by the body through phagocytosis, the process is less predictable than with synthetic sutures, and complete absorption usually occurs within 90 days
